Ashghal signs contracts for QR2bn projects

The five projects, for which contracts have been signed, aim at upgrading the existing infrastructure across the country
Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday rolled out another set of projects aimed at upgrading the existing infrastructure across the country.
It signed contracts for the execution of five projects, worth QR2.13bn, with various companies who were selected after the bidding process, officials said.
The projects include the Doha and Rayyan Sewerage lines Phase I (Mesaimeer), Phase II (Ain Khalid), Doha South Sewerage Treatment Works Expansion Phase II, Al-Ruwais Port Expansion Works and renovation of Qatar Radio & Television Corporation Complex.
The Doha and Rayyan Sewerage Phase I, worth QR139.64mn, was awarded to Qatar Trading and Contracting Group. The project comprises design and construction of sewerage system, including provision of house connections, on an area of around 770-hectare in Mesaimeer.
Work begins on June 19 to be completed in four stages. The QR399.20mn Phase II of Doha and Rayyan Sewerage (Ain Khalid) went to Qatar Building Company which will begin work on the project on July 18. The project will be completed in two phases.
The Doha South Sewerage Treatment Works Expansion Phase II contact was won by a joint-venture of Larsen & Toubro and Gulfar Engineering and Contracting. The contract value was put at QR691.20mn.
Work will begin on September 19. “This (project) is the second stage of a two-phase expansion work of Doha South Sewer Water Treatment Plant. The contractor will design, procure, construct, test and commission the plant,” Ashghal president Nasser al-Moulawi said.
The biggest project to be awarded yesterday, the QR781.75mn expansion work on the Al Ruwais Port on the northern tip of the peninsula, went to Consolidate Engineering and Construction Company, which will start work on June 20.
The project will be executed in three packages: development of Al-Ruwais Port (Phase II), marine facilities for fishing harbour, and miscellaneous facilities like warehouses, mosques, rest areas and a cafeteria. The final project was the renovation of the existing facilities of Qatar Radio and Television Corporation complex at a cost of QR121.95mn.
The contract was awarded to TAG Engineering and Consulting and work is scheduled to begin on June 15. The scope of work includes reconstruction of the external works as well as construction of a new complex of three buildings of 1,070sq m each, a 253sq m mosque, an administration building and a substation. The signing ceremony was attended by senior Ashghal officials as well as representatives.
