Germany’s Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer yesterday said the agreement between Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Qatari Diar “has the potential to strengthen Europe’s largest economy”.
Speaking to Gulf Times at the launch of the Qatar Railways Development Company (QRDC) joint-venture, Ramsauer said that Germany remained determined to bring the latest technology and capability (in logistics) to other regions of the world.
“What this joint venture means to our country (amidst a recession) is we can strengthen the German economy, the export sector in the field of logistics, infrastructure and construction,” Ramsauer said.
“This joint venture shows Germany is in a leading position in the fields of logistics, technology and transportation”
“We are a very export-oriented economy and this joint venture shows Germany is in a worldwide leading position in the fields of logistics, technology and transportation.”
German newspaper Handelsblatt reported that Siemens could be involved in supplying trains. It also said the German building industry could play a key role in the construction of the rail network.
DB chairman and chief executive officer Ruediger Grube said: “We could not be more excited to be deepening our long-standing relationship with such a high-quality company (as Qatari Diar)”.
