Panasonic to shift to new tower by July

The landmark Panasonic showroom in Musheireb will soon move to a new purpose-built tower nearby, owners Nasir Bin Abdullah & Sons Co (NAS) said.

The building, spread over 46,000sqm will house the Panasonic showroom on the ground level with 3,000sqm for retail space and the rest for 231 apartments.

Located near the Jaidah Flyover and opposite the Home Centre, construction of the building is underway.

The main contractors are the Construction & Reconstruction Engineering Co. (CRC).

“The decision to move was made since the current location will be demolished as part of urban regeneration of the Musheireb area.

Our new building will be a state-of-art development located on prime real estate,” NAS chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al-Thani said.

According to him, civic authorities have said the area facing Musheireb (from the Home Centre side) will be overhauled soon and eventually the NAS building will be located right on the main road.

“This serves well since the current Panasonic branch in Musheireb was a popular location so much so it often referred to as the National-Panasonic area,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

The QR215mn project is expected to be handed over to the NAS in July, Mohamed Ahmed Hendy of James Cubit & Partners Engineering Consultancy Qatar, the project designer and supervisor, said.

Of the 231 apartments, 41 will be one-bedroom, 115 two bedroom and 43 three-bedroom residential units. “Additional facilities will include a gymnasium, spa, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and open roof decks and a multi-purpose party hall for residents,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

“The rent of the apartments will be subject to market trends. But what we can say is that all the residential units will have quality finishing and they will be fully-furnished,” Sheikh Abdullah added.

“There will be heavy use of marble and glass in the building since the usual aluminium cladding consumes more heat,” CRC general manager Mostafa Ragab Abo Zeid said.

The building will have two basements which will provide parking for up to 235 vehicles. There will be an additional space for 60 vehicles reserved for Panasonic customers.

The new location will serve as the main branch of Panasonic in Qatar. The company currently has six branches across the country. NAS said it is undecided whether to name the building as Panasonic Tower or as NAS.
