School family fair showcases cultural heritage of Pakistan

A LARGE number of families attended the Bright Future Pakistani School’s (BFPS) Family Fair 2008 yesterday.

Students and their families hailing from Pakistan, the United States, Egypt, Sudan and other countries were entertained by a host of stage shows held in the school’s gymnasium.

Leading artistes from Pakistan presented comedy and music performances. An illusion show was the major crowd-puller.

Traditional Pakistani food, kebabs from the northern areas, and special dishes were on offer in stalls set up on the school ground. Local fast food joints set up kiosks selling everything from pizzas to burgers.

A children’s zone featured basketball, bowling, snakes and ladders, video games and other entertainment.

A cultural tent showcased the diverse heritage of the four provinces of Pakistan - Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and the North West Frontier Province - as well as Qatar’s culture.

Other stalls offered leather goods, winter wear, jewellery and textiles.

Pakistani MP Usman Khan Tarakai and embassy counsellor Tasneem-ur-Rehman inaugurated the festival.

Today the fair will be open to all from 4pm to 10pm. An entry fee of QR10 will be charged.

BFPS was opened in April 1996 and is the only expatriate school in Qatar that offers students a choice of two streams leading to a certificate from the Federal Board in Islamabad or the Board of Education, London.
