Truck park to reduce traffic congestion in Industrial Area

WHEN Qatar’s first Truck Park — the one-of-a-kind project of the Barwa Al Baraha — opens it will decrease the environmental pollution and traffic congestion in the Industrial Area.

The massive Truck Park, being built near the Street 52 roundabout, will offer parking to over 4,000 trucks and heavy vehicles at a time.

And it will come with amenities and facilities, a long standing demand of truckers in Qatar. These will include rest quarters, prayer lounges, toilets, gas station and workshops to maintain the trucks.

In the absence of a proper zone for parking of the heavy machinery, the owners of the trucks in Qatar have had to park them just beside the highway in the Industrial Area - an area stretching more than a kilometre, thereby causing visual obstruction to the traffic on both sides and causing environmental pollution by changing vehicle’s oil and dumping industrial waste at the spot.

Some densely-populated areas within Doha, such as Doha Jadeed, Freej Abdul Aziz and others also serve as parking areas for trucks.

A centre for periodical technical inspection for trucks and machinery will also be located at the Truck Park.

Back in August, Barwa officials had said that the Truck Park is almost complete and can be opened soon.

Barwa Al Baraha is a residential project near Street 54 of the Industrial Area. When completed in three years, it is expected to accommodate 53,000 people, Barwa officials said in August.

The project is being built in two phases. The first phase is the Truck Park itself, while the second phase, is the accommodation for bachelors.

The Truck Park will have eight entrances and 12 exits to facilitate movement of vehicles in and out of the premises, while latest security surveillance systems will also be installed.
